Singapore to host 2011 youth olympics

Candidate Cities

Following the decision of the members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on 5 July 2007 as part of its 119th Session to introduce the Youth Olympic Games, a youth version of the Olympic Games a candidate, first eleven cities for hosting the event. The candidate list was later reduced to two candidates. On 21 February 2008 sat down with the application of Singapore by 53:44 votes against the Russian capital Moscow.
Organisation

The budget of the First Youth Olympic Summer Games is around € 222 million, exceeding the originally budgeted costs threefold. With more than 100 million €, the IOC supported the event. The competitions held in 18 different sports, 12 of which previously existed only temporarily, and five for the hosting of the games were built. The opening and closing ceremonies are at The Float @ Marina Bay, instead of the weitweit largest floating stage, which was built in 2007 at the Marina Bay of Singapore.

The accommodations of the athletes and their carers was built on the grounds of the Nanyang Technological University. The program of the Olympic Youth Games provides that all participants stay for the entire Games in Singapore. The aim is to them as possible to come into contact with other young people and participate in cultural and educational programs.
Participating Nations

Around 3600 young people from all 205 countries with national Olympic committees are represented at the Games in Singapore, therefore, the number of participating nations at the Summer Olympics in Beijing surpassed 2008th Although the NOC was Kuwait after the attempt of political interference by the government of the country excluded from the event, but the Kuwaiti athletes may compete under the Olympic flag.

Germany is represented with 70 participants in 20 sports. Austria sent ten athletes and six athletes from twelve sports , for Switzerland enter 22 athletes in ten sports.  of Liechtenstein is the swimmers Julia Hassler and Simon Beck and the Judoka Patrick Marxer represented.
