7.0 earthquake rocks New Britian & New Guinea

An earthquake in the western Pacific Ocean with a Moment Magnitude of 6.3 Mw on Monday, 16 August 2010, at 1:09 local time clock (clock 17:09 EDT on Sunday, 15 August) struck the west of the island of New Britain. When the earthquake it was a “deep” earthquakes with epicenter about 149 km west-northwest of the city Kandrian in 197.2 km depth.

The earthquake was the second strong earthquake in the region within two weeks. On 5 August had an earthquake with a Moment Magnitude of 7.0 Mw to the west of the island interrupted electricity and communication lines for almost three days.

Currently there are no reports of damage or casualties from the recent earthquake. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has been no tsunami warning.
